China Approves 323 Imported Feed and Pet Food Products:

What Overseas Manufacturers Should Know

China continues to open its market to overseas feed and pet food manufacturers. According to the latest information published by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), a total of 323 imported feed and feed additive product registrations were issued in the latest registration update .

The registrations cover 34 countries and regions, including 251 new registrations and 72 renewals. These figures highlight the continued interest of international manufacturers in entering or maintaining access to the Chinese market.

Which Countries Have the Most Registrations?

New Zealand and the United States account for a significant share of the registrations.

The top five countries are:

* New Zealand: 58 registrations

* United States: 47 registrations

* Germany: 30 registrations

* Brazil: 22 registrations

* Serbia: 15 registrations

Together, New Zealand and the United States account for 105 registrations, representing approximately one-third of the total.

European manufacturers also have a strong presence, particularly in pet food, premium feed products and feed additives. Meanwhile, Brazil remains an important supplier of feed ingredients such as meat and bone meal, feather meal and soybean meal.

Which Product Categories Are Being Registered?

The latest registration data covers a wide range of imported products

1.Pet Compound Feed

Pet compound feed represents the largest category, accounting for approximately 37% of registrations. Products include dog food, cat food, prescription diets and other complete pet food products.

2. Single Feed Ingredients

There are 61 registrations in this category, covering products such as fishmeal, fish oil, poultry meal and blood plasma powder. These ingredients are important raw materials for China’s feed industry.

3. Feed Additives

Registrations also cover mixed feed additives, feed additive premixes and individual feed additives. Product types include vitamins, minerals, enzymes, microorganisms and flavouring substances.

This variety reflects opportunities for overseas manufacturers across both the pet food and animal feed sectors.

What Should Overseas Manufacturers Prepare Before Entering China?

For manufacturers planning to export feed or pet food products to China, regulatory requirements should be assessed before starting business with Chinese importers.

Key points include:

* Ingredient compliance: Check whether product ingredients comply with China’s Catalogue of Feed Ingredients and Catalogue of Feed Additives.

* Correct product classification: Determine the appropriate product category based on its composition, intended use and manufacturing process.

* MARA registration: Certain imported feed and feed additive products require registration with MARA before entering the Chinese market.

* GACC registration: Overseas manufacturing facilities may also need to complete registration with China Customs, depending on the product category and applicable import requirements.

* Certificate renewal: Imported feed registration certificates generally have a five-year validity period. Manufacturers should plan renewals in advance.

Not every product follows the same registration procedure. Requirements should be checked individually before export.
